With a particular focus on TV
FREEDOM OF THE PRESS
NEWS and NEWS WEBSITES,
the students investigated the
codes and conventions of these
BIAS
types of media texts, alongside
studying how they have been
constructed to appeal to a AUDIENCE CONSUMPTION
certain target audience.
MAGAZINE PRODUCTIONS
Letting their creativity flow…
Another successful year of magazine productions in which the Year
12s create their own concept magazines from a range of different
genres, following four different stages of production. This year’s pro-
ductions included specialist and more mainstream genres.
RESEARCH
Students analysed existing magazines within their chosen genre
which helped them to understand the typical genre conventions and
gave them ideas on how to appeal to the target audience.
PLANNING
Following the initial research, students planned their ideas for their
own magazines. This comprised of completing written proposals,
drafting different designs and devising shot lists for their images.
PRODUCTION
Then came the most exciting part of the creative process; designing
and constructing their own magazines pages. Following genre codes
and conventions, the students worked tirelessly to produce a
magazine which looked as authentic as possible.
EVALUATION
Finally, students evaluated the whole process, including the strengths
and weaknesses of their own productions. 81
