EDUCATING FOR THE WORLD OF WORK
Career Guidance is vital at all stages of the curriculum. A careers module is included in the Personal
Development Programme at both Key Stages 3 and 4, and a discrete period of careers is offered to pupils in
Years 11 and 12. Pupils receive a structured careers guidance programme involving work experience, careers
talks and individual interviews with the Careers Officer and Senior Staff. This level of support continues into
Years 13 and 14. Recent developments have included training for teaching staff, pupils and parents which
aim to prepare our young pupils for the evolving work opportunities and technologies of the global economy.
EDUCATING FOR EXAMINATION ACHIEVEMENT
An important goal for the school is to enable each child to achieve his/her potential and well beyond.
Identifying potential in a moment in time and when encouraged, motivated and given confidence pupils may
excel in unexpected ways. Each young person sets targets for improvement with the support of teachers and
parents, this is tracked and supported in their pathway through school. Pupils are tested through homework,
classwork, oral work and practical work as well as regular tracking events during the year. Examinations are
sat in the summer term.
Tracking Reports will be issued during the year and used to
inform discussion at parents’ mornings/afternoons.
This subject profile is used as the basis to discuss progress
with class teachers. These meetings are a useful vehicle
for pupils, parents and teachers to monitor and track
progress and re-set targets. Each pupil receives an end of
year report in June following the End of year Examinations.
