As a combined staff, we are a team – and it is the increased teamwork
which drives the potential, secures the success and celebrates
achievement.
The College would not function without the hard work, loyalty and dedication that the Teaching
Staff show each and every day. In September 2022 we renewed to approach our teaching with
reflection… energy… and new thinking… to underpin the strapline ‘Just Great Teaching’ with a
focus on ‘Momentum’ in June and August 2023 to support developments in this new school year.
Of course, it would be remiss of me not to mention my Vice-Principals and Strategic Leadership
Team for their unwavering support and dedication. Supporting the Vision and the Out-Working of
the School Development Plan… Your individual and collective knowledge and support have been
invaluable – not least your generosity of time!
I must pay tribute to my secretarial staff, to Mrs Bonnar as my personal secretary… keeping me
abreast of appointments… to do lists… and regular tea… on tap! My thanks to Mrs Erwin and Miss
Anderson who bring many years of combined experience to support the day-to-day running of the
front office.
We continue to benefit from the work of Learning Support Assistants as part of our work with
pupils with various types of Special Educational Needs. Similarly, the Sixth Form Supervisors, the
team of Technicians in Design and Technology, Home Economics, Science and Educational
Technology who play a vital role in the management and delivery of these subjects and areas in
the daily life of the College. We are also privileged to have a College Nurse, whose chief role is to
manage illness that arises, bring support to children, make contact with parents and maintain
appropriate records.
I also want to thank the Building Supervisors, Mr Devenney and Mr Bonnar ably led by Mr Blair,
and cleaning staff, for the high standard of their work. They, together with canteen staff, led by
Mrs Turtle, and supervisory staff, play an important role in making the College a healthy and
secure environment for all the young people. As a combined staff, we are a team – and it is the
increased teamwork which drives the potential, secures the success and celebrates achievement.
I record mention to past Principals… the late Mr Jim Gillan and Mr Rab Sloan.
I was so saddened to read of, former Principal, Mr Gillan’s passing. I had the opportunity to meet
th
Mr Gillan at the Dunclug College 40 Anniversary Celebrations, I recall his gentle smile and
conversation as he shared his proud association with the beginnings of the new school in 1971.
