Maths Week (October 2023)- All pupils (and staff) were invited to participate in our competition
in October. The challenge was to count the total number of triangles, of all sizes, in the diagram
shown. Our winners were Richard Burger-Perry, Joe Greer and Emily Bacon

Our other competition presented pupils with a different puzzle at the start of each lesson
through the day, including during registration.

Puzzles - Our search for new opportunities to engage pupils in different ways in Maths led us to
Zukei puzzles this year. The aim is to connect dots on each grid to build the specified geometric
shape. Year 9 and 10 pupils enjoyed the challenge which often turned out to be more
complicated than they had first anticipated.

14 March, the Maths Department ran two competitions. The first was a quiz for Year 8 which
promoted mathematical links to a host of other subjects. Year 8 pupils had the chance to
interrogate several of their other teachers to answer each of the questions shown below. Our
winners were Heidi Neill and Chloe Smyth (pictured below), along with Candice Mooney .
Financial Capability - Year 8 enjoyed a Financial Capability workshop in June where they looked
at Needs and Wants and how they can make wiser choices about their personal budgets,
spending and saving. Some Year 9 pupils have also been investigating bank statements.
