As we reflect on the vibrant musical journey of this academic year, it’s clear that music has been
at the heart of our school community. From the enchanting melodies of our talented pupils to
the heartwarming performances during our special events, the spirit of music truly shone
through.
Morning Check-In: A Musical Welcome - The Year 8 pupils kicked off the day with a delightful
performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and our beloved Dunclug School Song, entertaining
families and setting a joyful tone for the day.
Prize Day: Celebrating Excellence - Prize Day was graced with the beautiful harp melodies of
Jasmine as everyone entered, creating a serene atmosphere. The music programme,
thoughtfully stored in Kerrie’s folder, showcased various musical items including the whole
school choir performing Both Sides Now. The Chamber Choir also left a memorable impression
with their rendition of You Are Mine, featuring dedicated staff members E. Nevin, C. McClintock,
G. Parker, and C. Newell.
Carol Service: A Heartfelt Celebration - Our annual Carol Service was a true highlight, starting
with a warm welcome from Anna Francey, our Deputy Head Girl. The evening was filled with
stunning performances, including:
A Christmas Melody by the Whole School Choir, featuring soloist Evie Hughes (Year 8) and
flutist Lucy Carson (Year 12).
Joy to the World by the Year 8 Choir, with Emma Irwin and Naomi Little taking centre
stage as soloists.
A moving Harp Solo of Walking in the Air by Jasmine Hayes (Year 12) and a heartwarming
Vocal Duet by Hannah Smyth and Mark Weir.
The service also included a vibrant performance of Merry Christmas by the Whole School Choir,
showcasing the talents of soloist Kyle Houston-Brennan (Year 10), accompanied by our
dedicated staff. The evening culminated with the Staff Choir performing O Holy Night, adding a
touch of nostalgia and warmth to the celebrations.
Spring Concert: A Showcase of Talent - The Spring Concert was a joyful celebration of talent,
featuring the school choir’s rendition of What About Us. Emily Logan and Mrs. Nevin dazzled the
audience with their vocal skills, proving as they performed a much loved song from Wicked, ‘For
Good’. The Year 8 Choir performed Don’t Give Up On Me, with heartfelt solos by Holly Smyth
and Anna Millar, while Hannah Smyth’s powerful performance of Pulled left everyone in awe.
Throughout the year, our music program has united us, showcasing the incredible talents of our
students and staff alike. From heartfelt performances to celebratory gatherings, music has
created lasting memories that enrich our school community. We look forward to more
melodious moments in the coming year!
