As our Year 8 pupils wrap up their first year at secondary school, we reflect on what has been a truly
memorable and successful start to their journey at Dunclug College.
The year began with a dedicated three-day induction in August, designed to help pupils transition
smoothly from Primary to Secondary School. These days were filled with activities focused on
building confidence, learning new routines, and most importantly, forming new friendships. It was
heartening to see every pupil embrace the experience with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness
to step out of their comfort zones.
One of the highlights of the year was the Year 8 Social, a fantastic evening organised by our Sixth
Form pupils. Year 8s spent the night dancing to music, playing games, and enjoying the fun
atmosphere—an event that truly brought the year group together.
Another special moment in the Year 8 calendar was the Year 8 Check-In—a warm and welcoming
event that brought together pupils, parents, and staff. Families were invited into school to enjoy
performances from each form class, showcasing the creativity and confidence of our young people.
The morning concluded with a heartwarming rendition of the school song, sung proudly by the
entire year group. Guests also had the opportunity to share breakfast and chat informally with
teaching staff and the Head of Year, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was a fantastic
morning that celebrated the strong sense of community at Dunclug College and the positive start
our Year 8s have made.
In the festive season, pupils enjoyed a special trip to the cinema to see Paddington Bear, which
brought plenty of smiles and laughter. Later in the year, they had the chance to burn off some
energy and enjoy time with friends during the exciting trip to Airtastic, which was a huge hit with
everyone involved.
Throughout the year, our Year 8s have shown exceptional commitment to their learning. They’ve
worked incredibly hard, supported one another, and demonstrated resilience and maturity beyond
their years. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or during extracurricular activities, they’ve
approached every opportunity with energy and a positive attitude.
It’s been a joy to watch them grow—not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. The
friendships formed, the challenges overcome, and the memories made have all laid a strong
foundation for the years ahead.
What a great first year at Dunclug College! We are incredibly proud of everything Year 8 has
achieved and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish in the years to come.
