Girls’ Rugby
The girls' rugby team made up with girls from Years 8-10 braved a cold day to successfully make
their mark in the IRFU ‘Give it a Try’ tournament at Coleraine, showcasing incredible
determination, teamwork, and resilience. For many of the players, this was their first experience
playing competitive rugby, yet they approached every game with enthusiasm and commitment.
Despite their limited experience, the team impressed throughout the tournament, remaining
unbeaten across all their matches. They demonstrated strong defensive skills and excellent
coordination, refusing to back down under pressure. Their hard work paid off with several well-
executed and exciting tries, highlighting both individual flair and cohesive team play.
The effort and progress shown by each player were truly commendable. From learning the rules
to quickly learning tactics, every girl gave her best and supported her teammates throughout.
The weeks at rugby practice were all worthwhile!
This tournament was a fantastic step forward for girls' rugby at the school, and we look forward
to seeing this talented and dedicated group continue to develop and enjoy the game.
Girls’ Football
Football continues to grow year on year at the College, and indeed, we had a week in February
when every single year group played in a competition of some sort.
We were absolutely delighted, and very thankful to receive a new kit sponsored by Milano’s,
Ballymena.
U18s—For the first time, we entered the IFA U18 Cup. After losing in the first round to the
eventual winners, we progressed to the plate competition where we narrowly missed out on a
place in the semi-final after going down on penalties to St. Patrick’s, Dungiven. Mention was
made of Summer McAuley and Brooke McCartney by other school coaches, such was the level of
skill and commitment evident. Rebecca Curry and Gemma McClelland were both sidelined all
season with ACL injuries but hope to be fit for next season. This was the final season for Emma
Tennant, Nicole Rainey, Laura McBurney and Sydney Young – players who have played
consistently and at a high standard for school throughout their time at Dunclug.
U15s—The Y10/11 team delivered an outstanding performance to win the very first Mid Antrim
Secondary Schools Football Association ( MASSFA) tournament hosted by Cullybackey College,
showcasing skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition.
From the opening whistle to the final match, the team played some truly impressive football.
Their attacking style, solid defence, and excellent communication on the pitch set them apart
from their opponents. Each player contributed to the team’s success, with standout moments
including precise passing, powerful goals, and tactical discipline. The Hulpea sisters were solid in
the midfield along with Emmy-Lou Cathcart. Joni Getty, Abi Gregg and Demi Erwin dominated
attack, meaning Dekota Anew was never troubled in goals.
The team persevered under pressure and secured a well-deserved victory in the final match,
earning praise from coaches, supporters, and fellow competitors.
Congratulations to the entire team on a remarkable achievement!
