Numeracy Takes Centre Stage at School This Year!
This year has been packed with exciting, practical, and interactive numeracy experiences for students
across every year group — proving that numbers really do matter in everyday life!
One of the highlights was a visit from Christians Against Poverty to our sixth form students. Their
team spoke powerfully about money management, budgeting, and essential life skills that will equip
our older pupils well beyond school life. It was an eye-opening session that encouraged thoughtful
conversations about finances and the future.
Meanwhile, students in Years 8, 11 and 13 had the opportunity to take part in MyBnk’s brilliant
financial education programmes. Through the engaging ‘Money Twist’ and ‘Uni Dosh’ workshops,
pupils explored real-life financial scenarios in a hands-on way. These sessions helped them
understand everything from student loans to the true cost of everyday spending.
Our numeracy team also got creative during our Enrichment Village Open Nights, offering fun yet
challenging puzzles and real-life money problems for pupils and visitors to solve. It was fantastic to
see students of all ages getting stuck in and showing off their number skills!
Throughout the year, we’ve embraced numeracy in every corner of the school — even on the stairs!
Mathematical facts and formulas now decorate our staircases, making it easy to revise while on the
move.
Maths Week Ireland was another huge success. Each day, we ran exciting competitions for parents
and pupils to take part in together — a great way to bring the whole school community into the
numeracy celebration.
Numeracy has also made its way into a wide range of subjects. PE classes calculated heart rate
percentages, LLW tackled banking scams, English explored gambling statistics through persuasive
writing, Business Studies ran a fantastic Young Enterprise project, and HE got involved in Talk Money
Week, even challenging students to guess the cost of a Tesco shop!
Year 8s began their numeracy journey with enthusiasm, purchasing calculators and taking part in
induction puzzles that helped them transition smoothly into their new school environment.
To support success in exams, extra numeracy support was offered to Years 11 and 12 ahead of their
GCSE modules, while Key Stage 3 students had the opportunity to boost their number confidence
after the summer exams.
It’s been a fantastic year for numeracy — full of learning, laughter, and life skills. Here’s to even more
number fun next year!
