Careers Competition—In Term 1, Key Stage 3 pupils were invited to take part in an exciting Careers
Competition, where they were challenged to create a vision board illustrating their hopes and
aspirations for the future. The competition encouraged students to think creatively about their goals,
careers, and the paths they might take to achieve them.
We were thrilled to receive a wide range of imaginative and inspiring entries, each one reflecting the
unique dreams and ambitions of our students. After much deliberation, the top three submissions
were from Year 8, selected for their creativity and thoughtful presentation. Well done to: Erika
Gheorghe, Tito Osoko and Chantelle Wright.
Dunclug College Joins Queen’s Junior Academy Programme—We are proud to now be a part of the
Queen’s Junior Academy programme. This exciting opportunity is offered to a select group of Year 9
students, who will remain in the programme through to Year 12. As Junior Academy participants,
students benefit from a wide range of enriching experiences, including:
Guided tours of the Queen’s University campus
Interaction with current undergraduate students
Orienteering and team-building activities
Insight into the history and traditions of Queen’s
Subject taster sessions and study skills workshops
This programme is designed to raise aspirations and support academic achievement, helping students
to see university as a real and attainable goal. A huge congratulations to the following pupils for
securing a place in this year’s cohort: Carter Dewar, Kori Thompson, Skylar McAuley, Katie Steele, Mya
Magill and Katie Smith.
Year 12 Students Sharpen Interview Skills with British Army Professionals—Year 12 students took
part in mock interviews led by representatives from the British Army. The interviews challenged
students to reflect on their personal developed, work experience, and future aspirations, while also
navigating scenario-based, competency-style questions. The mock interview experience proved
invaluable for Year 12 students, helping them to build confidence and gain meaningful insight into
real-world interview scenarios. Many students distinguished themselves with thoughtful responses
and strong communication skills, impressing both observing teachers and interviewers. Top
performers were recognised for their outstanding efforts with a well-earned ‘treat period’. We extend
our sincere thanks to the British Army facilitators for their time, encouragement and expert guidance
throughout the day.
Careers Guidance Interviews—As part of our commitment to high-quality careers guidance, Year 12
students received a one-to-one interview with the Careers Service NI. Theses sessions are designed to
enhance students’ awareness of the wide range of options available to them after Year 12, helping
them to prepare for life after school.
Year 13 Common Careers Period—Our Year 13 students had the opportunity to engage with a diverse
range of post-18 education and career providers. Throughout the year, representatives from Sentinus,
Queen’s University, Ulster University, Modern Scottish Universities, CAFRE and WorkPlus and others
delivered informative and inspiring talks. These sessions offered students a clearer understanding of
the many pathways available after school, helping them to make more informed decisions about their
future.
Year 13 Explore Future Pathways at UCAS Discovery Day—In March, our Year 13 students attended
the UCAS Discovery Day at the Eikon Centre in Lisburn – a fantastic opportunity to explore options
beyond school. With over 100 universities, colleges, and apprenticeship providers in attendance,
students were able to engage directly with representatives, gather information on a wide range of
course and career paths, and attend live expert talks. The event offered valuable insights and up-to-
date advice, helping students make more informed decisions about their future pathways. Many
students left feeling motivated and inspired, full of new ideas and possibilities for their next steps.
Queen’s University Pathway Programme—Aaliyah Boyd and Julie Thompson were selected for the
English, and Business pathway (respectively) at Queen’s this year. Aaliyah and Julie benefited from a
structured series of events designed to prepare them for the transition to undergraduate study at
Queen’s, including insight into academic and extracurricular aspects of student life, admissions
guidance and support. Well done on your successful application!
