Generation Innovation Workshops and Work Experience—Our Year 13 students had the exciting opportunity
to participate in two dynamic workshops offered by Generation Innovation (Catalyst NI): Exploring
Entrepreneurship and Pitch Perfect. These workshops aim to empower young people by fostering essential
skills for future careers, with a strong focus on creativity, teamwork, and presentation. In the Exploring
Entrepreneurship workshop, students gained a deep understanding of what it takes to start and run a
business. They explored branding and marketing strategies through hands-on activities, while also being
introduced to real-life examples of successful entrepreneurs. This session helped demystify the world of
business, equipping students with the tools needed to turn their innovative ideas into viable projects.
The Pitch Perfect workshop was equally engaging, focusing on the art of delivering persuasive and impactful
presentations. Through interactive exercises, students learned how to structure and deliver compelling
pitches, refining their communication and public speaking skills—critical assets in the business and
innovation landscape. These workshops are part of a broader initiative by Generation Innovation to inspire
and prepare the next generation of innovators, helping them build the mindset and skills required for
tomorrow’s job market. We were delighted to continue the relationship with Generation Innovation as 6 of
our students completed work experience with them in June 2024 at Catalyst, Queen’s Road, Belfast. Sara
Craig, Reece Doig, Isobel Farquhar, Caleb Ford, Lindsay McCombe and Katy Sloan spent a week developing
essential skills such as problem-solving, emotional resilience and creativity. During the week, students
worked on real-world business challenges, collaborated with industry professionals, and honed their
presentation and pitching abilities. The experience also included networking opportunities with
representatives from leading companies in Northern Ireland. The work experience programme has been
instrumental in preparing students for both higher education and the evolving job market, fostering a
forward-thinking, entrepreneurial attitude that will benefit them well beyond their time in school.

Year 9 Students Shine at STEM Ambassador Programme - In June, our Year 9 students had the fantastic
opportunity to join other schools from across Mid and East Antrim for an action-packed day of STEM
activities at Larne Leisure Centre. This event was part of the exciting STEM Ambassador Programme, designed
to inspire and engage young minds in the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The
event, funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), allowed our students to take part in a variety of hands-
on workshops, guided by some of the Borough’s leading employers, including Ryobi Aluminium Casting,
Caterpillar, Wrightbus, IPC Mouldings, Kilwaughter Minerals, and GES. These activities not only sparked
curiosity but also gave our students a glimpse into the diverse careers available in the STEM sector.
Additionally, students were treated to immersive experiences led by Space Office NI and the Royal Academy
of Engineering, where they explored the wonders of space and engineering in a whole new light. The STEM
Ambassador Programme aims to ensure that every young person, no matter their background, has the
chance to connect with cutting-edge STEM research and innovation. Through UKRI’s dedicated funding, the
programme is able to focus on reaching students where it’s needed most, making a lasting impact on their
futures. Our Year 9 pupils returned inspired, with a deeper appreciation for STEM and a sense of excitement
                    about the possibilities ahead!
Year 14 Students Attend Ulster University Open Days - In September 2023, our Year 14 students had the
opportunity to attend Open Days at Ulster University's campuses in Belfast, Derry~Londonderry, and
Coleraine. These events allowed students to explore the university environment firsthand, speak with
lecturers and current students, and gain valuable insights into the courses and facilities on offer. Open Days
provide a unique opportunity for students to ask questions about the application process, entry
requirements, and course structures. They can attend course-specific talks, take tours of the campuses, and
get a feel for the student experience in areas such as accommodation, student support services, and social
activities. This exposure helps students make informed decisions about their higher education options, as
they can compare different campuses, explore career prospects, and determine which university
environment suits them best. Our students returned from the Open Days with a clearer understanding of
university life and their next steps, making the experience an invaluable part of their decision-making
                    process for their future studies.
