As the academic year comes to a close, it's time to reflect on the exciting and memorable moments
we've shared in Year 8 at Dunclug College. From social events and school trips to creative
performances, our year has been filled with fun, learning, and community spirit.
Year 8 Social—We kicked off the year with the much-anticipated Year 8 Social. This event provided a
fantastic opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better. With music, games, and plenty
of snacks, it was a night filled with laughter and new friendships. The social helped to break the ice
and set a positive tone for the rest of the year.
Parent Check-In Event - The Parent Check-In Event was a great success, allowing parents to engage
with teachers and understand the progress and well-being of their children. This event fostered a
strong partnership between the school and home, ensuring that every student receives the support
they need to thrive. Parents had the opportunity to tour the school, meet the faculty, and discuss
the academic and social development of their children.
School Play: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - One of the standout moments of the year was the school play,
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." The Year 8 performers- whether on stage or in the background singing
and acting potential was on display for all to see. Many put in countless hours of rehearsal and
preparation, and their hard work truly paid off. The performances were spectacular, with impressive
acting, singing, and stage design. The play was a huge hit, drawing large audiences and receiving
rave reviews from students, parents, and staff alike.
Carol Service - Our annual Carol Service was another highlight of the year, the service featured
traditional carols, readings, and performances by the school choir. It was a heartwarming event that
brought the entire school community together to celebrate the festive season and reflect on the
year gone by.
Festive Fun Trip to the Cinema: Wonka—In December, we took a trip to the cinema to see the
magical film "Wonka." This outing was not only a Christmas treat but it also allowed students the
opportunity to socialise, have fun and enjoy an out of school trip for a morning. Watching the film
provided a great opportunity to relax and enjoy a day out with classmates.
Spring Concert - Year 8 pupils proved to be an integral part of the talent on display in the Spring
Concert. Many pupils got involved whether singing or playing instruments in the annual concert.
NHS Schools Project: Year 8 Workshop Care and Bereavement—Mrs McKillop organised for Year 8
students participate in a unique and thought-provoking workshop. This event was delivered by the
Northern Health and Social Care Trust's Community Specialist Palliative Care Team, aiming to raise
awareness about Palliative Care and Bereavement among our young students. The programme was
developed by Child Bereavement UK, a national charity renowned for its work in supporting children
through loss and bereavement. Designed with great care to be age-appropriate, the workshop
provided our students with a sensitive yet straightforward approach to understanding these complex
issues.
