Technology Club - This year, the Technology Club in Term 1 had the opportunity to develop skills
in CAD and CAM. This involved designing name tags on a software package called SolidWorks.
The name tags were manufactured from acrylic and shaped using the laser cutter.
In term 2, the Technology Club took part in the “Sustainable Futures Competition” held by the
Mid & East Antrim Borough Council to which the club was successful in winning. The challenge
was to create a bespoke design using recyclable material from home and from school which led
to the creation of a sustainable 3D model of the new school.
Rotary Club Technology Challenge - In March two teams of pupils from Year 10 attended the
annual Technology Challenge held by the Rotary Club in the NRC. Schools from around the
borough competed to design and manufacture a pulley motor powered vehicle to cross a zip
wire. The two teams produced brilliant projects that both succeeded the river crossing
challenge.
Robotics - Almost 200 P6 pupils from local schools over two days in February experienced
Robotics- developing programming and numeracy skills. The task at hand was to programme a
bot around a predetermined course. This was a well-attended event with many enjoying the
exciting activity . Sixth form Technology and Engineering students were responsible in the
leading of this and found it to be a valuable experience.
Key Stage 3 Winners - The department continues to reward success and this year a number of
pupils excelled in the Summer exams.
