Geography at Dunclug College
At Dunclug College, Geography is more than just maps and mountains—it's a passport to
adventure, discovery, and understanding the world around us. This year, the Geography
Department has taken learning to exciting new heights, blending innovative classroom experiences
with unforgettable fieldwork.
From the bustling cities of the world to the remote corners of the Amazon rainforest, our students
have explored diverse landscapes, cultures, and environmental challenges—all from the comfort of
our classrooms. Using interactive digital tools, virtual reality, and hands-on projects, Geography
lessons have become a dynamic journey of curiosity and creativity.
But the true highlight of the year? Without a doubt, the GCSE Geography Field Trip to the Curly
Burn in Limavady!
This thrilling day out gave students the chance to become real-life geographers, investigating river
processes and landforms in the stunning Northern Irish countryside. Armed with wellies,
measuring tapes, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm, our pupils waded into the Curly Burn to collect
data, observe erosion and deposition, and apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
The laughter, teamwork, and muddy boots made it a day to remember!
Fieldwork like this not only deepens understanding but also builds confidence, collaboration, and a
genuine love for the subject. As one student put it, “It was amazing to see what we’ve learned in
action. Plus, getting out into nature with our friends made it even better!”
As we look ahead, the Geography Department is excited to continue exploring new places, tackling
global issues, and inspiring the next generation of world-changers. Whether you're fascinated by
volcanoes, passionate about climate change, or curious about how cities grow, there's a place for
you in Geography at Dunclug.
So grab your compass—adventure awaits!
