Hockey
The respective age groups met faithfully in rain , hail and shine to practise every week We had
fixtures in the Ballymena League and enjoyed working together achieving some wins, and a few
draws. Some of the girls had never played hockey before but took to the pitch like experts.
Special mention must go to footballer Skylar in Y8 who discovered she was an amazing hockey
goal keeper!
Girl’s Football - Year 8 & 9
With football becoming increasingly popular, we have a large group of girls who are keen
footballers therefore more than happy to compete in the Futsal and outdoor tournaments held
throughout the year. At the Futsal Tournament in November, there was a very large group of
participants, so we were delighted to have reached the semi-finals, where unfortunately we
lost to a strong team from the North West. We progressed in the Northern Ireland Cup through
two rounds, but our cup run came to an end in January.
In the summer term we enjoyed participating in the Ballymena Schools Tournament , the IFA
Super Schools event and some ‘friendly’ fixtures versus both Slemish and Cullybackey College
respectively, coming home with the win each time ! The future looks very bright for this group.
Year 10-12
There were fewer competitions on offer from the IFA for the older age groups this year, which
was disappointing. We had a good run again at the Futsal Tournament at Ulster University
Coleraine – not winning as we did last year, but still gave an excellent account of ourselves. We
were the Northern Region winners in the NI Cup at U16 so progressed to the NI Finals held at
The Queen’s University Playing Fields. There was some solid play from Rebecca Curry and
Gemma McClelland pressing in attack, with Brooke McCartney and Jodie Lynn holding off the
opposition in mid field, and Summer McAuley and Olivia McCormick doing their utmost in
defence. Unfortunately, we did not come home with any silverware, but certainly girls’ football
at the College continues to go from strength to strength.
